The Ethicurean is a renowned organic restaurant in the heart of the South West, celebrated for its beautiful Victorian walled garden where fresh vegetables are grown and transformed into exceptional seasonal dishes. We were commissioned to design, manufacture, and install a complete bespoke front-of-house fit-out as part of an extensive restaurant and kitchen refurbishment.
As specialist carpenters and bespoke furniture makers in Bristol, we created a commercial interior that reflects The Ethicurean’s unique approach to open-fire cooking. The centrepiece of the new kitchen is a fire pit, so we selected locally sourced Douglas Fir, which was traditionally charred to create striking timber cladding for the service counters. This handcrafted finish celebrates the restaurant’s fire-led cooking philosophy while showcasing sustainable craftsmanship.
The dark, textured timber is complemented by solid brass laminated end panels, brass kick plates, and a precision brass inlay surrounding the European oak worktops. Premium black leather handles complete the bespoke joinery, creating a refined balance of natural materials and contemporary detailing.
Elsewhere in the restaurant, we designed and built a custom Formica and European oak display and storage unit to showcase The Ethicurean’s collection of curiosities. Above the bar, a bespoke glass rack, handcrafted by Oli Hallett Metalworks, features matching brass details that seamlessly tie the interior together.
Based in Bristol, we specialise in bespoke carpentry, custom furniture, commercial joinery, restaurant fit-outs, and handcrafted interiors throughout Bristol, Bath, Somerset, Gloucestershire, and the South West. Every project is designed and built to combine exceptional craftsmanship, sustainable materials, and timeless design.
